Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 With 5.1mm Thickness Launched at Rs. 17,999
Micromax on Thursday at an event in New Delhi launched its new Canvas-series smartphone, the Canvas Sliver 5. The smartphone has been priced at Rs. 17,999 and will be available starting the first week of July. The Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 is most notable for its 5.1mm thickness, which the company claims is maintained "end-to-end" on the handset without any bump. To recall, Vivo's X5Max sports 4.75mm thickness; though features a bump in the rear camera region much like the Oppo R5 which measures 4.85mm thick. It is also lightweight, weighing in at just 97 grams.
Another highlight of the smartphone is it supports 4G LTE and similar to the Canvas Knight 2, comes with Airtel's Double 4G Data offer that doubles the 4G data amount for any consumer. The company also introduced its new service policy for the Canvas Sliver 5 dubbed 'M! On-site Care' which promises consumers a doorstep pickup and drop in 7 days.
The Android 5.0.2 Lollipop-based Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 supports a single SIM card (Nano-SIM) and features a 4.8-inch (720x1280 pixels) HD Amoled display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor coupled with 2GB of DDR3 RAM. The Canvas Sliver 5 comes with 16GB of inbuilt storage, but doesn't feature expandable storage support. The non-availability of a microSD card slot coupled with the average specifications could be a deal breaker for many consumers at this price point, though admittedly the phone's main USP is its slimness. It will be available in Gold and Black colour variants.
The Canvas Sliver 5 sports an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with Sony IMX219 CMOS sensor with a 'blue glass filter' and LED flash. There is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera on board as well. The Canvas Sliver 5 is backed by a 2000mAh battery with the company claiming improved battery backup.
Micromax also revealed that Hugh Jackman will be back on board to promote the new Canvas Sliver 5 smartphone with the first ad expected to show up on television in July.
It's worth noting that with this price Micromax seems to take on the likes of Xiaomi's Mi 4 which received a price cut on Wednesday and will now retail at Rs. 14,999 for the 16GB model.
Micromax To Launch A Flagship Phone Tomorrow
Micromax has sent out media
invites for the launch of a flagship smartphone tomorrow in New Delhi,
India. The invite image carries cryptic text - "Mystery prisoner found
locked in. Can he escape his destiny?" Also there is mention of
Jailbreak on the image.
Though there are barely any official hints on what could be in store, the rumor mill point towards the Canvas 5 smartphone. We've been hearing reports of that one since last October.
While the details are scarce, Micromax’s new Canvas 5 flagship should feature a 1080p display, the new MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) mobile chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM and a 16MP rear camera. There will be a front facing 5MP camera and the smartphone is expected to be packaged in aluminum chassis.
We will have to wait until tomorrow to see if those rumors are correct, though.
