OnePlus 2 With OxygenOS, Fingerprint Sensor, USB Type-C Launched at Rs. 24,999
OnePlus, the startup Chinese smartphone maker that made quite a name for itself with its first device the OnePlus One, early Tuesday launched its new flagship - the OnePlus 2.
The OnePlus 2 will go on sale in India, China, the US, Canada, and
select EU regions on August 11. Southeast Asia will get the smartphone
in Q4 2015. The 64GB OnePlus 2 will be priced in India at Rs. 24,999 and
be available via Amazon India.
The OnePlus 2 will feature a 5.5-inch in-cell display with a full-HD (1080x1920 pixel) resolution and 1500:1 contrast ratio. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC coupled with an Adreno 330 GPU alongside 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB internal storage. It will sport dual 4G Nano-SIM cards, as well as USB Type-C connectivity (with the cable reversible at both ends). It bears a 13-megapixel rear camera with a 1.3-micron sensor, laser autofocus, dual-LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, and OIS, apart from a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It runs on a 3300mAh battery, and has a fingerprint sensor that can store up to 5 prints. It weighs 175 grams. A 16GB OnePlus 2 with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM will be made available later this year at Rs. 22,999.
The OnePlus 2 runs OxygenOS, the company's custom OS that is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and will continue to be available via an invite system - here's how you can get yours.
The company says it will be opening popup stores at 9 cities across the world - namely, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Jakarta, Milan, Berlin, Paris, London, New York, and San Francisco - on Friday. Visitors will get to try out the OnePlus 2, ask questions, and could even win an invite. The first 50 visitors will get a gift bag. Details about the venue addresses can be found on the OnePlus forum.
Some differentiating features of OxygenOS include the ability to set app permissions; a new camera app with super resolution mode, time lapse, and slow motion; an audio tuner; a file manager, and customisability with support for icons packs, the option to adjust icon grid size, personalise the LED indicator, a Dark UI mode, and the ability to select accents.
At the VR launch event, the company also revealed some more details about the build of the OnePlus 2, and apart from an aluminium alloy frame, the OnePlus 2 features customisable capacitive keys, a hardware Alert Slider button (that switches between no notifications, priority notifications, and all notifications), and finally, the StyleSwap covers that were promised for the predecessor but never materialised. Said to be easy and fast to switch out, the covers come in four materials - Bamboo, Black Apricot, Rosewood, Kevlar. The phone itself with ship with a Sandstone Black cover, like the predecessor.
Commenting on the OnePlus 2 launch, Vikas Agarwal, General Manager - India, OnePlus, said, "The future battleground for all things innovation and technology has begun and OnePlus with its latest offering is all set to lead the next generation of smartphones. India is an important market for us and our fans are sure to get their hands on OnePlus 2 simultaneously with the rest of the world."
OnePlus also revealed prices for other launch countries. In the US, it will cost $329 and $389 for the 16GB and 64GB variants respectively. OnePlus 2 Invites System Is Live, Here's How You Can Reserve a Spot
The launch of OnePlus 2 is round the corner, and just like its
predecessor the OnePlus One, the self-proclaimed '2016 Flagship Killer'
will initially be available via the invite system. The company now
announced that the invite system is now live, and explained how the
invitation process will work for the OnePlus 2.
In a forum post, OnePlus staff member Raggy explained that for the first month, the company will prioritise its loyal users, while giving others a chance to win invites via contests and other means.
"Our early and most fervent supporters will be prioritised, those of you who have helped us spread the word and grow OnePlus from an unknown company to where we are today," the post says. "Specifically, I'm talking about phone smashers, early forum members, early purchasers and the most active OnePlus One invite evangelists. We want to show you our gratitude by offering you some of the first invites to purchase the OnePlus 2."
For others, the post goes on add, "There will be a variety of ways to get invites, you'll have to work for it in contests and/or other promotions -- but you will receive the invites quickly. Stay tuned on the forums and social media or subscribe to our newsletter for more information about events."
If you wish to reserve a spot in the list, simply head over to the special website. "Just put down your email address and wait for the invite to come," the company says. "Everyone on the list will eventually receive an invite."
"This list will move on a first come first serve basis. Every day, we will evaluate our production and inventory situation to send out as many of these invites as possible."
The first invites for the OnePlus 2 are likely to be sent out during the launch, the post added. Other details pertaining to the invite system are available on the company website.

OnePlus 2 3300mAh Battery, Band Information Confirmed on Reddit AMAA
OnePlus continues to reveal its OnePlus 2 smartphone specifications,
this time not via its forum or social media channels, but through a
Reddit AMAA (Ask Me Almost Anything) session on Thursday. The session
comprised of company executives - Michael, Emmanuel, Carl Pei
(co-founder), and David on Thursday, revealing some new features of the
upcoming handset.
What we can see from the lengthy session on the forum is that OnePlus 2 will be compact in size as compared to OnePlus One. One of the executives posted an image (seen above) of the OnePlus One beneath which OnePlus 2 is kept, suggesting a smaller form factor. It is not yet clear whether the display size has also been tailored accordingly, or is the same 5.5-inch that was been tipped in the recent past.
The firm has managed to pack almost 10 percent more battery capacity on the OnePlus 2 despite its compact size. The smartphone will be backed by a 3300mAh battery, as compared to OnePlus One's 3100mAh one. While the camera details were not mentioned, the executives did say that the camera has "a bunch of things that we believe will set the OnePlus 2 apart."
OnePlus' Michael added that for OnePlus 2, there has been very extensive testing of the touchscreen, and it will not misbehave as it did on OnePlus One. On the software side, the company has tried to keep the Oxygen OS as close to stock Android as possible for ease of use.
In the AMAA session, Pei confirmed that OnePlus 2's charging cable would be there in both 5 feet and 3.3 feet sizes. As for the handset's design, Pei said that, "Hardware has been locked for a while. We're just about to exit design verification stage, still tweaking the last few fit & finish details but no major design changes." Also, OnePlus 2 would be missing out on a heart rate sensor and a front-facing fingerprint sensor.
We already have seen OnePlus 2 in three different versions - A2001, A2003, and A2005 - with two variants making it to benchmark testing and another for certification. However, the firm has now cleared the air, stating that out of the three, one will be China-specific, while the other two will be international models. One of the two international models will reach North America, while the second one will be for Europe and Asia. One of the differences between the models will be the network band support. The NA version will support GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz, WCDMA bands 1/2/4/5/8, and FDD-LTE bands 1/2/4/5/7/8/12/17. The Europe and Asia variants will come with GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz, WCDMA bands 1/2/5/8, and FDD-LTE bands 1/3/5/7/8/20. Surprisingly, no mention has been made of support for TDD-LTE Band 40 (2300MHz), which will be a glaring omission if an Asia-variant with those bands is launched in India. The country's operators currently offer 4G LTE only on the TDD-LTE 2300MHz Band 40, and the FDD-LTE 1800MHz Band 3 rollout it only expected to happen later this year.
Lastly, the firm promised to keep its OnePlus One available in markets after the OnePlus 2 launch. Like the current model was initially offered, OnePlus 2 will also be available via the company's "improved version of the invite system" and the early supporters will be prioritised.
The company has already revealed that its second flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 2, will be launching on July 27 and the announcement will be made at a virtual reality event. The OnePlus 2 will be priced between $322 (roughly Rs. 20,500) and $450 (roughly Rs. 28,500), would feature a fingerprint sensor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC, USB Type-C port, 4GB LPDDR4 RAM, and most probably, a metal build

OnePlus 2 to Sport 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM
According to the post, the OnePlus 2 will sport 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. This also goes in line with the last week's report that showed OnePlus 2 model codenamed "ONE A2003" listed in GeekBench results with 4GB of RAM. So far an A2001 model with 3GB of RAM and a A2005 model with no accompanying details have been spotted.
OnePlus says it is banking on LPDDR4 RAM as it would deliver faster loading times, fluid gameplay, and better power efficiency. As compared to LPDDR3, the LPDDR4 RAM will be offering double the bandwidth performance on OnePlus 2. Also, LPDDR4 RAM uses a lower operating voltage decreasing from 1.2V to 1.1V. "And with speeds up to 32GB/s, it is also twice as fast as the LPDDR3. It offers optimal support for power-saving low frequency mode that brings clock speeds down when performing those everyday and necessary tasks," added the forum.
As per OnePlus, the upgraded RAM will give a boost to the user experience on the OnePlus 2 when gaming or using power-intensive features such as slow-motion video and face recognition. "Unlike 32-bit processors that can only utilize up to 3GB of RAM, our 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor uses all 4GB to its maximum potential."
After the detailing of RAM, what we know about the OnePlus 2 so far is that it will be priced between $322 (roughly Rs. 20,500) and $450 (roughly Rs. 28,500), would feature a fingerprint sensor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC, USB Type-C port, 4GB LPDDR4 RAM, and most probably, a metal build.
OnePlus 2 will be unveiled on July 27 in virtual reality
If you've been getting annoyed
by OnePlus' hype campaign for its next smartphone so far, here's some
good news. You only have another month of teasers to look forward to.
That's because the OnePlus 2 will finally be officially announced on July 27 at 7 PM PT. Yes, today's teaser from OnePlus concerns the date on which its next handset will be fully outed.
That's because the OnePlus 2 will finally be officially announced on July 27 at 7 PM PT. Yes, today's teaser from OnePlus concerns the date on which its next handset will be fully outed.
But wait, there's more. OnePlus is going to do "the world's first
product launch in VR" on this occasion. For this purpose, the company
has designed its own VR cardboard headset, starting from existing
designs but tailoring the experience for the upcoming OnePlus 2.
The OnePlus Cardboard headset, pictured below, will also happily
accommodate other devices up to 6 inches in size. It's said to be fast
and easy to assemble, it's made from durable materials, it's more
compact than other such headsets, and it's coated with a special film
that repels dirt and oils. The result should be a pretty high-tech
product for something (literally) made out of cardboard.
As for the OnePlus 2 launch itself, the virtual reality experience will let you "stand" next to the OnePlus team and other fans as the new flagship is unveiled. You'll be able to look around and check the phone out in an entirely new way, and perhaps even find some hidden Easter eggs while you're at it. More details are definitely coming soon.

OnePlus 2 will be one of the first smartphones to boast a USB Type-C port
OnePlus is continuing its teaser campaign in the run up to the launch
of the OnePlus 2. After revealing details about the chipset and
pricing, now the company has revealed yet another significant
specification.
OnePlus tweets on their twitter account.
"The #OnePlus2 will be the first flagship to use Type C USB. We want to lead the way in power connectivity."
The OnePlus 2 will be among the first smartphones to boast a USB Type-C port. The company says it wants to “lead the way in power connectivity,” and hence has made this choice. Though Chinese manufacturer LeTV’s One Max holds the crown for the first-ever smartphone boasting USB Type-C port, the OnePlus 2 will be the first USB C-totting smartphone from a mainstream company.
The USB Type-C port was first seen on Apple’s new MacBook, as well as Google’s Chromebook Pixel 2. Its advantages include being reversible like Apple’s Lightning cable, data transfer speeds up to 10 Gbps, can deliver up to 100w of power, and is one port for all kinds of functions. Lastly, it is tiny so it can help companies make ultra-slim devices.
OnePlus has already revealed that the OnePlus 2 will be powered by an improved version of Snapdragon 810 chipset, and will be priced upwards of $322 (Rs 20,540 approximately).
From what we have heard so far, it could flaunt a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display, 3GB of RAM, 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, and on the software front, Android 5.1 Lollipop (wrapped under Oxygen OS in India/Hydrogen OS in China) out-of-the-box. While there is still no word on a launch date, reports generating out of China claim that the OnePlus 2 could be launched as early as next

OnePlus 2 Launch Date and Price Tipped Again
Until
now, we heard the OnePlus founder only revealing the launch period of
the company's OnePlus 2 handset in Q3 of this year. Now according to the
latest rumours, the smartphone is said to be officially introduced in
July.
The rumours, coming from Chinese website MyDrivers (via Gizmochina), also mention the price tag of the smartphone as CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 20,600), which is lower than the CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 25,000) price tag CEO Liu Zuohu (aka Pete Lau) tipped last month. However, the smartphone would still be priced more than the current flagship handset. However, if the new rumoured price is anything to go by, OnePlus 2 might prove to be one of the cheapest Snapdragon 810 processor-laden smartphone in the market.
The report also says that another smartphone with more powerful specs can be launched before the end of this year. Both the low price of the handset, alongside a second smartphone being due to be released later this year, goes in line with previous reports that suggested both a top-end flagship and a cheap version will be released this year.
Last month OnePlus One's successor appeared in an alleged Chinese benchmarking website, revealing a bunch of specifications. As per the benchmarks, the smartphone is supposed to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor; 3GB of RAM; full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display; 5-megapixel front camera, and Adreno 430 GPU.
Contradicting previously leaked specifications, the Chinese benchmark website hinted at a 13-megapixel rear camera on the OnePlus 2, instead of a 16-megapixel camera. Some of the other rumoured specifications of the OnePlus 2 included a 3300mAh battery; 4G LTE; GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Micro-USB and OTG connectivity.
Earlier this month the firm also announced that while OnePlus users worldwide would be receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop-based CM 12.1 "soon"; the update for OxygenOS with the same Android build is currently on hold and will be made available for the OnePlus One only after the OnePlus 2 itself is launched.
