Apple Launches New iPod touch, Brings New Colours to shuffle, nano

Apple iPod Touch
Although the iPod's popularity has waned, Apple is updating its music player for the first time in nearly three years by giving the flagship iPod touch model a faster processor and better cameras, apart from new colours which also extend to the iPod shuffle and iPod nano.
The new iPod touch also enables Apple Music, a subscription service that offers unlimited playback of millions of songs. Apple Music launched June 30 as music fans increasingly embrace subscriptions over pay-per-song services such as Apple's industry-leading iTunes.
Although music players existed before the original iPod's debut in 2001, the iPod was the first to simplify syncing with digital music collections on personal computers. It was Apple's first success beyond personal computers and began a company transformation that led to the iPhone in 2007, the iPad in 2010 and the Apple Watch this year.
Many people now listen to music on smartphones rather than iPods, though. Sales of iPods peaked at nearly 55 million in fiscal 2008, the year after the iPhone came out. In the most recent fiscal year, which ended last September, Apple sold 14 million iPods. By contrast, Apple sold 169 million iPhones in the same period.
As demand has slowed, so has Apple's updates to the iPod: Apple no longer updates its iPods annually as it usually does with its top sellers. But Wednesday's update shows Apple isn't giving up on the iPod.
The iPod touch is essentially an iPhone without cellular capabilities, as it runs the same iOS operating system and most of the same apps. Connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi, the Touch extends Apple Music and iPhone apps to teens and other younger customers who might not need cellphones or cannot afford cellular service.
Beyond music, the iPod touch might get new customers hooked on Apple's apps, video and other content - such that they'll turn to an iPhone, iPad or Mac when they are ready. Calling is possible over Wi-Fi through FaceTime audio, and video conferencing.
Roger Kay, president of the market research firm Endpoint Technology Associates, said the iPod Touch helps protect Apple from lower-priced competitors.
"Having a $200 (roughly Rs. 12,600) small computer without cellular service is a pretty good price," Kay said. "This may be a second, third or fourth device for families that already have a bunch of Apple products. The 9-year-old wants something, so they get them a iPod touch."
Apple iPod Touch

It also makes Apple products more affordable in emerging markets, said Carolina Milanesi, who heads U.S. operations for the Kantar Worldpanel ComTech research group.
Rob Enderle of the Enderle Group said that while iPod sales have been declining, they are still massive.
"Not everyone wants an iPhone, yet a lot of those folks loved their iPods," he said. "This product will be far more successful than anyone expects."
The new iPod touch comes with improvements like the 64-bit Apple A8 processor, matching the chip in the iPhone 6  and iPhone 6 Plus  from last fall, rather than one from the iPhone 4s in 2011. Apple says the new chip is six times faster for general tasks and 10 times faster for graphics. It also comes with the M8 motion co-processor has also made its way onto the iPod touch, and will deliver fitness tracking features.
The improved rear iSight camera in the new iPod touch can take sharper pictures, at 8 megapixels. That matches recent iPhones and exceeds the 5 megapixels in the previous iPod touch. The front and rear cameras can now take 10 shots per second and slow-motion video at 120 frames per second. The new iPod touch also includes support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and Bluetooth 4.1.
"Customers can experience next-level gameplay, take even more beautiful photos and enjoy their favorite music, TV shows and movies," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's Vice President of iPhone, iPod and iOS product marketing.
Although the iPod touch has an accelerometer and M8 processor to track basic fitness, it doesn't have all of the iPhone's sensors. There's no barometer to measure steps climbed and no fingerprint Touch ID sensor to unlock the device.
There's also no Apple Pay, the technology for making payments at retail stores. The screen remains at 4 inches, as measured diagonally, even though iPhones have gotten bigger at 4.7 and 5.5 inches.
Apple is introducing a new model with 128 gigabytes, matching the iPhone's maximum capacity. The base model has 16 gigabytes, enough for thousands of songs, though the iPod Touch is meant to hold photos, video and apps, too.
Apple iPod Touch Shuffle Nano

The iPod shuffle and the iPod nano are getting the same colours (Space Grey, Silver, Gold, Pink, and Blue), but what's inside isn't changing, nor are the prices. Neither model can run Apple Music or the various iPhone apps.
In India, the new iPod touch starts at Rs.18,900 for the 16GB model, Rs. 22,900 for 32GB and Rs. 26,900 for 64GB. In the US, the new iPod touch starts at $199 for the 16GB model, $249 for 32GB, $299 for 64GB, and $399 for 128GB.
Apple says the entire iPod family in its five new colours is now available in India through select Apple Authorised Resellers. The 128GB iPod touch model is being sold only via Apple stores (physical and online), so it's not available in India since Apple doesn't have a direct retail presence in the country.

Apple is gearing up for a record iPhone 6s launch

It looks like Apple is gearing up for a record-shattering launch of the iPhone 6s family. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Cupertino giant has ordered 85-90 million units from its suppliers.

IPhone 6 Plus
Apple suppliers will manufacture the above mentioned eye-popping number of devices by the end of this year. The iPhone 6s family, just like the lineup it is bound to replace, will feature variants with 4.7” and 5.5” display.
The successor of iPhone 6 is rumored to feature the exact same design language. In addition to a more powerful chipset with faster LTE chip, iPhone 6s is also expected to pack a display with Force Touch, and 12MP camera with 4K video capture.
Apple will unveil the next iPhone in September. The rumor mill points at a September 18 retail launch.

Apple iOS 9 public beta is now available for everyone

Apple made a public beta of iOS 9 available for everyone who’s interested to try it out. All users need to do is join the Apple Beta Software Program with their Apple ID.

Apple iOS 9 public beta is now available for everyone
The iOS 9 public beta is a more polished release than the versions that were available only for developers over the last month. Yesterday, Apple released iOS 9 beta 3 to registered developers.
Apple iOS 9 packs a number of new features and improvements over its predecessor. They include more capable Siri, split-screen multitasking on iPad, and under-the-hood upgrades among others.
If you are interested in trying out the new iOS 9 in beta guise, head over to the source link to get started. Be aware that the firmware is not finished, so occasional bugs are more than likely.

How to Download Apple’s iOS 9 Beta—If You Dare

WWDC 2015
Today, Apple is releasing the public beta of iOS 9. This marks the first time that the beta of this version of Apple’s mobile operating system is being made available to users as well as developers. While previews and “pre-beta” builds have been available, now the real thing is here.
All you need to do is head to beta.apple.com and install the consumer beta version of iOS 9 after following Apple’s sign up process. You’ll login with your Apple ID, choose iOS 9, then head to Getting Start. You’ll enroll your device, and then Apple will tell you what to do depending on what model iPhone or iPad you have. Notable features include Apple Music and the new Apple News app.
The update is 213 MB, and as anyone with way too many photos and/or apps knows, that could have previously been a deal breaker. Now, though, Apple has been making it possible for even those of us with little to no storage left download the most recent version of iOS: If there isn’t enough space to install the build, your device will ask if it’s OK to delete a few apps, which will reappear after the installation is complete. So if that sounds like it could be you, then keep an eye out for that permissions screen.

But Wait!

Of course, before you do any of this, you should ask yourself if you want iOS 9. Yes, Apple has released iOS 9 to everyone, but a beta is a beta—and that means it could brick your device, especially if you’re using an older iPhone (early reports say that the build has been working fine with iPhones as old as the 4S; everything that supported iOS 8). The final, official iOS 9 will be fully optimized for iPhone, including most models (I mean, if you’re still rocking a 3GS, no promises), and the odds that it will totally render your device inoperable are close to none. Even still, Apple suggests you download this build to a secondary device, and after the near-disastrous iOS 8 release, we all know that even official releases can be buggy (to say the least). So if you’re willing to risk your iPhone, go forth and download the iOS 9 beta. But don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Latest iOS 9 Beta Adds News App, Music Quality Settings, Screenshot Folder, and More

IOS 9 Beta

On Wednesday Apple released the third beta version iOS 9 - its mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - to developers. The build number 13A4293g is available over-the-air or via Apple's developer portal. This beta is the biggest update to iOS 9 so far, adding a new app as well as bringing changes to older apps.
iOS 9 beta 3 introduces the News app, which was first announced at WWDC. This new app offers a list of curated stories, which is similar to third-party apps like Flipboard and Inside. This app also supports the addition of RSS feeds from Safari. It is available only to US users for now. The update also includes an entirely revamped two-factor authentication system that was also brought to the OS X El Capitan developer beta. The new built-in system uses different methods to trust devices and display verification codes (now six-digit). iOS 9 also sees the search option including Siri app suggestions as well.
The new beta makes use of the screen estate that the iPad provides and now has app folders with 4x4 arrangement as opposed to the 3x3 arrangement, which now allows you to save up to 105 apps per folder.
IOS 9 Beta 3 Ipad
The Photos app also gets an update with iOS 9, adding pre-determined folders called Selfies and Screenshots. And as their names suggest, the Selfies folder bunches all the photos captured by the front camera and the screenshots folder puts all the photos taken by holding down the power button and home button.
Addressing a complaint users have had with the Apple Music service - not being able to adjust audio quality for cellular connections - Apple has revamped the settings section of the Music app to includes an option to stream music at the highest quality while using a cellular connection. The Restrictions settings has a new logo for Siri & Dictation and there is a new setting to toggle on/off access to the News app, and the option to turn off Apple Music Connect is gone.
There is a minor bug - that has been added by Apple to 'Known Issues' section in the release notes - which removes the ability to use the volume button for shooting pictures from inside the camera app.
Apart from iOS 9 beta 3, Apple also introduced Apple watchOS 2 beta 3. This new beta includes a ton of enhancements and bug fixes like - enlarged keypad buttons, more granular control of volume and brightness, a new Music app icon, Beats 1 support in Music app, Weather now shows when it was last updated, activation lock, and a function where pressing down the digital crown on the app screen returns you to the watch face.
There is also a new El Capitan Beta 3 which has several bug fixes. There is also a new splash screen for the Calendar app, and now you can also drag a window out of the top bar and move it back to the desktop as a separate window in the Mission Control page

Developers Can Now Price Their Paid iOS Apps as Low as Rs. 10

IOS App Store
Apple has announced new pricing tiers that will enable developers to price their paid apps as low as Rs. 10 for customers in India.
All prices in App Store are set against the US dollar (USD), and the lowest a developer can price an app - other than making it free of course - is $0.99. In markets outside the US, Apple has traditionally charged the local currency equivalent of the USD price, as calculated against a fixed (but periodically revised) exchange rate. The exact pricing in each market is shown to developers as a part of the Pricing Matrix available under iTunes Connect.
Apple has let developers charge higher or lower prices in select markets as part of its 'Alternate Tier' pricing. This week, Apple extended two low-price tiers - called Alternate Tier A and Alternate Tier B - to the App Store in India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, and Turkey. Thanks to these new tiers, developers can continue to charge, say, $0.99 for an app in the US App Store but charge customers in India Rs. 10 (Alternate Tier A) or Rs. 30 (Alternate Tier B). The Alternate Tier pricing is also applicable for in-app purchases.
Apple notes that developers already using the Alternate Tier A and Alternate Tier B price tiers on the Chinese App Store will see prices for their apps in the above mentioned countries updated to reflect the new pricing structure. Other developers will need to opt in to the alternate pricing tiers to avail their benefit. The lowest price for a paid app in these regions now stands at 5 Peso in Mexico, 1 Yuan in China, 3000 Rupiah in Indonesia, Rs. 10 in India, 15 Rubles in Russia, 0.59 Lira in Turkey, and 3.99 Rand in South Africa.
The move is extremely pragmatic on Apple's part, and if it finds widespread adoption amongst developers, could encourage people to loosen their purse strings to spend on apps where they otherwise wouldn't. Many still see Rs. 60 as too high a price to pay for an app, but Rs. 10 is unlikely to invoke the same sentiment. Any potential loss of revenue for developers by opting in for the low-price tiers is more than likely to be offset by increased volume of sales.

Apple Watch 2 leak hints at a bigger battery and built-in camera

Apple Watch
The buzz around Apple Watch hasn’t even died yet, and rumors of its successor have already started to surface online. Korean publication Digital Daily dishes out the first scoop about the Apple Watch 2, and reveals that the smartwatch may be a standalone wearable with a bigger battery and in-built camera.
The report states that there aren’t any differences in the successor in terms of design, display or even resolution. However, the company is rectifying the biggest pain point existing on the current Apple Watch – the draining battery. The company will embed a bigger battery into the Apple Watch 2 to improve performance.
Even though there isn’t any changes in terms of design, the report does note that Apple is looking to make the Apple Watch 2 a little more lighter and thinner. It could also include a camera that may make it possible for users to FaceTime via the Watch.
Currently, the Apple Watch needs to be paired with the iPhone in order to make or receive calls and texts.  In what could be a significant improvement if it is introduced, the Apple Watch 2 will work without the iPhone and function as a standalone device, even while making phone calls or texts. This would be in line with what Apple announced at WWDC last month. It will soon be releasing watchOS 2, which brings features like third-party app support, new watch faces among others.
Lastly, unlike the last time where LG shipped all the displays for the Apple Watch, this time Samsung will do part shipment along with LG. The Apple Watch will not be launched until 2016, but just like last time, we may see an unveil in September.

Apple iPhone 6s family rumored to feature a 12MP camera module

The Apple iPhone 6s family will feature 12MP main cameras according to leaked images on Weibo by alleged Foxconn employee. The photos have subsequently been removed from the account.
Apple iPhone 6s module
The camera unit has reportedly been optimized to shoot 4K video and slow-motion footage at 240 frames per second. Previous rumors suggested that Apple might opt for a 16MP unit in the iPhone 6 successor.
With internal model numbers N66 for iPhone 6s and N71 for iPhone 6s Plus, both models will pack 2GB of RAM, 5MP front camera, and LTE Category 6 modem.
The successors of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have reportedly entered early production. Apple is expected to launch the duo in September.

iTunes with Apple Music now available

Apple finally rolled out iOS 8.4.yesterday on compatible iOS devices, which, among other minor things, brought with it Apple Music in a brand new music player.
iTunes with Apple Music now available

However, if you are on the desktop, you’d have noticed that you couldn’t access Apple Music through iTunes, and that if you clicked the Beats 1 link it would tell you to install iTunes 12.2, which wasn’t out yet. Well, that’s not the case anymore.
Apple has released iTunes 12.2 for both OS X and Windows, and you can either update it or download it from Apple’s website. The new app looks mostly the same but has new tabs for Apple Music, the same ones seen in the Apple Music app on iOS. There is also a new icon, again identical to the iOS version.
You can get it from the link below.

Apple Begins Production of Force Touch-Enabled iPhone Models: Report

Iphone Gold Grey
Apple has reportedly begun production of its next-generation iPhone models, expected to be called the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
As per a report by Bloomberg, the Cupertino giant has integrated its Force Touch technology in the new iPhone displays. The Force Touch technology was first introduced in the Apple Watch, followed by the new 12-inch MacBook. It can detect different touch pressures which can then be used to display more options to users than regular touch.
The report, which cites people with knowledge of the matter, adds that Apple has been working for the past two years to integrate the technology into iPhone displays, and that the latest iPhone models will be almost identical to the last generation except for the inclusion of Force Touch.
The report is in line with several other leaks in the past few months, with the most recent indicating the new iPhone models will be slightly longer (0.15mm) and thicker (0.2mm) to accommodate the Force Touch technology.
The Bloomberg report also adds that the company is expected to ramp up volume production of the next iPhone models as early as next month, and though the company expects production to be streamlined due to the similarity of this year's and last year's models, there might be a delay because of the supply and yields of the new type of Force Touch display.
So far, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are expected to feature the same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays respectively as last year's models, but bring additions like 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM, a 12-megapixel rear camera instead of an 8-megapixel offering, and an upgraded front-facing FaceTime camera with 1080p recording apart from a front-facing flash.

New OS X El Capitan Beta confirms 21.5” iMac with 4K Retina display

Apple might have a 21.5” iMac with 4K Retina display in the works. Code within the latest Mac OS X El Capitan beta mentions the unannounced all-in-one.
New OS X El Capitan Beta confirms 21.5” iMac with 4K Retina display

A 4K Retina variant will likely replace the currently available 21.5” iMac. The desktop will slot below the 27” iMac with 5K Retina display in the company’s product range. It will also certainly carry a more affordable price tag than the 27” model.
 latest El Capitan beta code

The latest El Capitan beta code also brings along a mention of the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200, which is featured in Intel’s latest Broadwell family of processors. Along with this, four new AMD Radeon R9 series processors we spotted in the code – M380, M390, M395 and M395X.

Report confirms Apple's decision to use SiPs for next iPhone models

Apple Iphones
Back in March, we passed along a rumor out of China that said Apple would be using System in Package (SiP) technology along with a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) on the next iteration of the Apple iPhone. This morning, a fresh new report from China confirms the original story. By using SiPs inside the iPhone, Apple opens up space inside the device for a larger battery.

The SiP technology was employed by Cupertino in the Apple Watch, and the report says that for the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus the tech titan will use both SiPs and a PCB before eliminating the latter completely with the 2016 iPhone. Even though Apple seems to consider SiPs the best thing since sliced bread, if one part of the module is found to be faulty, the entire SiP is bad which means that production yields are often low.

The same report says that despite rumors that the next iPhone models could be unveiled early, with the SiPs going into production this month, it won't be until late September or early October before the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus see the light of day. Besides the SiPs, other technology borrowed from the Apple Watch and rumored to be earmarked for the new iPhones include Force Touch and the Series 7000 aluminum that will prevent a repeat of #bendgate.

iOS 9 Source Code Tips 2732x2048 Pixel Resolution for Rumoured iPad Pro

Tim Cook With Ipad Air 2
Adding to the numerous previous rumours for Apple's anticipated larger iPad, thought to be called the iPad Pro or iPad Plus, a developer has pointed to strings in the iOS 9 source code strings that indicate support for a 2732x2048 pixels resolution - perfect for the much-reported 12.9-inch iPad Pro tablet.
According to a developer named Hiraku Wang (via Apple Insider), the source code only shows a resolution of 1366x1024 pixels, but due to Apple's present display scaling system, this actually indicates support for a resolution of 2732x2048 pixels. If the resolution is correct, and the previously rumoured 12.9-inch screen size of the tablet is any indication, the pixel density of the device (267ppi) would quite nearly match the iPad Air 2 - 264ppi. A consistent pixel density across iPad tablets would also result in nearly effortless scaling of apps optimised for the iPad Air to the iPad Pro.
Adding to the speculation, a Twitter user named Steve Troughton-Smith on Monday (via 9to5Mac) also posted a screenshot of iOS 9's keyboard that would scale itself at larger resolutions, which as mentioned above might come with the rumoured iPad Pro. As per the screenshot, a new row of keys is seen on top of the regular keyboard for easy addition of special characters. The layout of the keyboard has also been changed slightly, hinting more towards the inclusion of a larger display resolution. Apple as usual, has not yet commented anything on the aforementioned rumours and speculation.
In March, it was said that Apple would delay the start of production on its 12.9-inch iPad until around September because of problems involving the display panel supply. Other rumours for the tablet included are 7mm-thickness, larger battery 11000mAh battery and a weight of less than 700 grams. A stylus pen for the tablet was also rumoured earlier this year.

Apple Gives Powerbeats2 Wireless Headphones New Colours To Match Apple Watch Sport

Powerbeats2 Wireless Headphones

Apple has updated the colour selection range on its fitness-oriented Powerbeats2 Wireless earphones to match the Apple Watch Sport colours. The new colour options available are Blue, Black, Green, Pink, and White, and are the same shades as their Apple Watch Sport counterparts. The move signals clear intent by Apple to focus audio accessories of the Beats brand on the Apple Watch ecosystem. The matching of colours is expected to draw users of the Apple Watch Sport to purchase matching Beats earphones such as the Powerbeats2 Wireless. The Watch comes with 2GB of inbuilt storage which can be used for playing music wirelessly when paired with Bluetooth audio products. The update to Watch OS 2 will have the Watch support many more audio applications.
The Powerbeats2 Wireless has gone on sale in the new colours through Apple Stores in certain markets, but is yet to arrive at other retailers.
Although the Powerbeats2 Wireless are aimed at Apple ecosystem users, the in-ear headphones will work on any device that supports Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, including Android and other compatible personal audio devices. There has been no price change for the earphones, and they are still available at the original price of $199.95 (approximately Rs. 12,800).
The Apple Watch is expected to be made available in seven more countries on June 26 and is already available in nine countries. A date for India availability is yet to be announced. This is one of Apple's first big moves to tie Beats products in with Apple products, after last year's high profile acquisition of the audio brand by Apple.

iPhone Maker Foxconn in Talks to Build First Apple Plant in India

Apple Game Of The Year Threes! Goes Free

Threes Game
Launched early in 2014, and almost immediately cloned as 1024 and 2048 - both of which ended up being more famous than the original - Threes! is a game that's also a work of art, and the only reason it was overshadowed by its clones was because unlike them, it was not a free game.

Apple Now Makes Android Apps, Including One That Will Help You 'Move to iOS'

Apple Now Makes Android Apps
Apple is now making Android apps. While we let that sink in for you, let us soften the blow by telling you that one of these apps exists only to help people switch to iOS. While Google has a whole suite of apps on iOS, Apple has so far avoided making any of its apps available on Android. That makes this change of stance significant.

WWDC 2015: Apple Unveils iOS 9, Apple Music, Native Watch Apps, OS X El Capitan

Apple's HealthKit Will Track Reproductive Health in iOS 9

Apple's HealthKit Will Track Reproductive Health in iOS 9
Last year's WWDC saw the introduction of HealthKit platform on all devices running iOS 8. HealthKit is a comprehensive health and fitness framework for first and third-party apps, while the in-house Health app allows users to track their weight, steps, and blood glucose levels. On Monday, at this year's WWDC keynote address, Apple announced a few new metrics to track UV exposure, how often you're seated, how often you drink water, and most importantly, reproductive health.
