Today, Apple is releasing the
public beta of iOS 9. This marks the first time that the beta of this
version of Apple’s mobile operating system is being made available to
users as well as developers. While previews and “pre-beta” builds have
been available, now the real thing is here.
All you need to do is head to beta.apple.com and install the consumer beta version of iOS 9 after following Apple’s sign up process. You’ll login with your Apple ID, choose iOS 9, then head to Getting Start. You’ll enroll your device, and then Apple will tell you what to do depending on what model iPhone or iPad you have. Notable features include Apple Music and the new Apple News app.
The update is 213 MB, and as anyone with way too many photos and/or apps knows, that could have previously been a deal breaker. Now, though, Apple has been making it possible for even those of us with little to no storage left download the most recent version of iOS: If there isn’t enough space to install the build, your device will ask if it’s OK to delete a few apps, which will reappear after the installation is complete. So if that sounds like it could be you, then keep an eye out for that permissions screen.
