Using an Old iPhone or iPad? Here's Some Good News for You

Iphone 4s Black
iPhone and iPad users have often complained that devices get slower after major OS updates, with recent updates like iOS 7 and iOS 8 perhaps being more guilty of this behaviour than their predecessors. If you are still clinging on to your iPhone 4S or iPad 2, here's some good news for you.

iPhone 6C leaked on the site?

We have been hearing that Apple might be working on a cheaper model of iPhone even this year round but news hasn't been confirmed as of yet. Apple had released the iPhone 5C in 2013 under the umbrella of an affordable smartphone, but it could not help the company get any real traction. This is one of the reasons why skeptics feel it is unlikely of Apple to repeat its past mistake

While the debate continues, a news report claims that Apple had accidently posted pictures of the forthcoming iPhone 6C on the site. The said picture was that of iPhone 5c with the new TouchID feature. This has sparked fresh rumors of an iPhone 6c variant.

Apple Prohibits Using Selfie Sticks At WWDC

Apple has banned people from using selfie sticks or similar monopods within Moscone West or Yerba Buena Gardens during WWDC. The company has mentioned it as such on its WWDC General Instructions webpage.

Apple Prohibits Using Selfie Sticks At WWDC
To be fair, Apple has prohibited people from bringing any kind of serious photography equipment at the event and the selfie stick rule is to prevent people from blocking other people’s view with their obnoxious sticks.
It’s sad that this even needs to be said but many not only have no concern of how ridiculous they look when using those things but also don’t care that they maybe obstructing someone else’s view when they stick out their phones in the middle of an event. Maybe other people will also start disallowing selfie sticks at events. That would be nice.

Apple acquired the camera tech company LinX

Apple acquired the small camera technology company LinX Computational Imaging Ltd. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Cupertino giant paid about $20 million for the Israe-based company.
Apple acquired the camera tech company LinX
LinX specializes in making ultra-compact camera sensors for slim smartphones. The company’s creations can capture 2D images, as well as 3D information, which can be utilized to deliver a number of special effects after capture.
Acquiring such company means that Apple plans to bring the development of its mobile devices’ camera hardware in-house. Currently, the company uses Sony sensors for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
As is the case with most of its small acquisitions, Apple refused to provide an official comment on the matter.

Apple Watch expected to have sold close to 1 million units in the US on launch day

Apple Watch seems to have had a good launch day, if the data from Slice Intelligence is to be believed. The company tracked the e-receipts of 9,080 online shoppers who opted in to have their email tracked, the company estimates over 957,000 people purchased some variant of the Apple Watch in US alone.

Out of these, Slice Intelligence estimates 62 percent went with the cheapest Apple Watch Sport model, mostly in the Space Gray finish, with most of the rest preferring to get the stainless steel model. The larger 42mm version was also the more popular choice over the 38mm. The Black Sports Band was the most popular choice, followed by the White Sports Band, and then the Milanese Loop. The company has more detailed stats on its website.
These are extrapolated numbers so they could be off the mark. The actual sales figures could be different. But if it is taken as a rough estimate, then it’s a good show for a 1st gen device on launch day in one country. The Apple Watch was also released in Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, China and Hong Kong, and we don’t have the data for that yet.
Apple would soon be publishing the official numbers shortly but it’s quite likely that the Apple Watch became the best selling smartwatch on launch day itself.

Apple Is Still Struggling To Push NFC Payments In China

Apple’s current pair of flagship devices – the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are enjoying an ever-growing level of popularity, bringing more and more attention to one of the company’s most ambitious projects – widespread NFC-based payments. The Cupertino giant has bee investing heftily in the new service, pushing it all throughout the US, Canada and Europe, despite some major retailer distrust.
But this steady expansion has yet to reach China – an area where the service has hit a lot of problems and is still in limbo. As some of you might remember, Apple has been struggling to strike a deal with China’s UnionPay and bring Apple Pay to the enormous market. After a lot of hardships, the feature was supposed to finally see the light of day in iOS 8.3, but the OS update is already here and NFC payments are still nowhere to be found.
Apple Is Still Struggling To Push NFC Payments In China

It seems negotiations between the two parties are still fruitless and there is no going around UnionPay regulations, as it is in charge of all interbank transactions in China. There has been a lot of speculation about Apple’s NFC chips not living up to standards, but this might not be the entire story. New reports state, that Chinese banks are reluctant to agree to Apple’s 0.15% of a 2% per-pay merchant fee.
Apple Is Still Struggling To Push NFC Payments In China
All in all, thing aren’t looking up for Apple Pay in China. There might still be hope for Apple though, as both China Mobile and China Unicom have NFC payment support. But a partnership with the aforementioned still requires going through UnionPay. There has also been a lot of talk of a possible cooperation between Cupertino and Alibaba and launching Apple Pay through the working Alipay system, but again, there is no going around regulations.
For now, we just have to wait and see in Apple manages to escape the long-standing stalemate and enter the vast Chinese market.
