Washington: Google has opened up its Person Finder tool in the wake of the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Kathmandu in Nepal yesterday.

According to the Verge, the tool is a simple crowd-sourced missing persons' database.
Google first launched the application in 2010, following the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

Person Finder gathers information from emergency responders and individual users who can enter information for a missing person or someone who has been found.

The application has collected over 1,300 records and the number continues to grow throughout the day.

Dan Fredinburg was killed in the avalanche that buried parts of the base camp where hundreds of mountaineers were gathered for the start of the climbing season.

The visual that has now been removed was located in Pakistan near the city of Rawalpindi, and added to Google Maps through Map Maker, a feature that allows users to add content and additional information to Google Maps. (ANI)

Just over a month after chairman Eric Schmidt made it clear that Google isn’t giving up on Google Glass, Massimo Vian, CEO of Italian eyewear manufacturer Luxottica, has said that the next iteration of the high-tech eyewear is coming out soon.

Speaking at the company’s general meeting in Milan, Italy, Vian also revealed that while the version 2.0 is currently being worked on, version 3.0 is also in the planning stages. “In Google, there are some second thoughts on how to interpret version 3 [of the eyewear],” he said. “What you saw was version 1. We’re now working on version 2, which is in preparation.”
It was also announced that the partnership between the two companies is going ahead. For those who aren’t in the know, Luxottica entered into a deal with Google last year to design and market fashionable Glass devices.
