Lava Iris Atom 2 With 4.5-Inch Display Launched at Rs. 4,949

Lava on Tuesday launched a new smartphone under its Iris range of devices, the Lava Iris Atom 2. The budget smartphone is priced at Rs. 4,949 and is available online and via national retail stores.
The Android 4.4 KitKat-based Lava Iris Atom 2 sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854x480 pixels) resolution display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core SoC (unspecified chipset), clubbed with 512MB of RAM. The smartphone features a 5-megapixel rear camera with Largan lens and LED flash, and a VGA (0.3-megapixel) VGA front-facing camera for video chatting purposes. It offers different camera modes including HDR and Panorama.
The Iris Atom 2 comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage, which can be further expanded via microSD card (up to 32GB). In the connectivity section, the smartphone offers Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, GPS, and Bluetooth options. The device is backed by a 1750mAh Li-ion battery and would arrive in White and Black colour variants. In addition, the handset features Smart Gesture Control features.

Based on the specifications, the Lava Iris Atom 2 goes head-to-head with the recently launched Lava Iris X1 Atom S. While most of the specifications of the two smartphone are the same, the latter is slightly toned-down with a 4-inch display, 1GHz single-core processor and a lower 1400mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 14 hours 20 minutes of talk time on 2G, 5 hours 41 minutes of talk time on 3G, 300 hours of standby time on 2G, and 170 hours of standby time on 3G. The camera setup, inbuilt storage capacity. and RAM stay the same in both handsets.
Another recent launch at a similar price is the Intex Aqua Sense 5.0 smartphone, priced Rs. 4,690. The Aqua Sense 5.0 features dual-SIM (3G+2G) support and runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box. It comes with a 5-inch (540x960 pixels) qHD IPS display. The smartphone is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Spreadtrum (SC7731) processor coupled with 512MB of RAM. It bears 8GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB).
