You could use an iPod touch, but as per the description on the game page, it's "not suited to playing this game" despite being listed as a compatible device. For now, there are no details about when the game will hit Android smartphones.
While hardcore fans of the game might be enraged seeing a beloved classic hit mobile devices, this was anticipated for a while now. With regular frequency, Square Enix has been porting its classics to iOS and Android. It's inevitable that Final Fantasy VIII and IX will follow. But will it do the same for other single-player entries after that remains to be seen considering that they're more technically complex.
