Chinese Smartphone Manufacturer Meizu Set to Debut In India on May 18, Likely to Launch Meizu M1 Note

Meizu, one of the top smartphone vendors in China, has long shown its interest to enter the Indian market, and now it has a specific date in mind. The company hints that it will debut in India on May 18. The announcement comes weeks after Meizu set up a Facebook India page.

While details are scarce at the moment, the company is likely to launch the Meizu m1 note next week as it debuts on the Indian soil. As for the specifications, the dual-SIM capable m1 note sports a 5.5-inch FHD IGZO display. It is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor coupled with Mali T760 GPU, and 2 gigs of RAM. The phone carries a striking resemblance to Apple’s iPhone 5c smartphone, and costs only about $160 off-contract.
On a post on Meizu India Facebook page the company teases its arrival in the country. In the tease, the company seems to be taking jabs at Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun’s awkward English skill that he demonstrated at the launch of Mi 4i smartphone in India last month.
Much like Xiaomi, OnePlus and Motorola that entered the Indian market last year and opted to take the online route to sell their smartphones and other products in the country, Meizu has also shown interest in partnering with a bunch of e-commerce portals to sell its products in India. But the company also intends to collaborate with brick and mortar retails to sell some amount of inventories offline as well.

“E-commerce is growing rapidly in India, but at the same time, most of the smartphone sales still happen offline.” Angela Jin, part of Meizu India’s communications team had told us last month. “We want to sell our phones on both online and offline. Hence, we are looking for partners in both these channels.”
Unlike Lenovo, Xiaomi, Motorola, and Yu that partnered with a single shopping portal to give them the exclusive rights to sell their smartphones in the country, Meizu says that it doesn’t plan to give one partner the exclusive rights as of now. “We don’t want to start with an exclusive deal either online or offline. I’m not ruling that out in the future, but to begin with, we are not looking for exclusive deals,” Jin added.
The world’s second most populous nation also hosts one of the biggest and fastest growing smartphone markets. In the last two years, India has welcomed quite a lot of Chinese smartphone manufacturers including Xiaomi, OnePlus, Vivo, and Oppo. Coolpad will also launch a smartphone in India soon.
