Rumours
around Xiaomi's next flagship smartphone, expected to be called the Mi
5, are once again making the rounds of the Internet. The latest rumour claims that the successor of the Xiaomi Mi 4
will feature a 5.2-inch QHD display with a resolution of 1440x2560
pixels. The handset is also said to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 810
processor, which has already been featured on a majority of high-end
smartphones.
The purported Mi 5 specifications have been tipped by a Chinese blogger with a post on Weibo. As seen in the post (via Mydrivers.com), the Mi 5 will pack a 3000mAh battery and will sport a 16-megapixel OIS rear camera. The post also claims that the Mi 5 will feature 4GB of RAM, much like the recently launched Asus ZenFone 2 (4GB RAM) in India.
The post, in line with a report that surfaced over the weekend, also claims that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will sport fingerprint scanner. A Xiaomi patent detailing fingerprint recognition method via the handset's buttons were spotted at China's State Intellectual Property Office.
While we are yet to hear any official word on the launch of the successor to the Xiaomi Mi 4, the reports of a patent being filed by the company for a fingerprint recognition method do indicate the technology may just be used on the next flagship.
Considering that Xiaomi is yet to debut a handset with fingerprint recognition technology and we can expect the feature to be the highlight of the anticipated Mi 5. If the rumours of the QHD display are correct, the Mi 5 will not be the first handset from the company to sport such a high-resolution display - that distinction goes to the Mi Note Pro, which launched earlier this year in China and also sports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC.
Some of the other specifications leaked on the MIUI thread claim that the Mi 5 will come in 16GB/64GB built-in storage models, and will sport an 8-megapixel front camera.
