Xiaomi Mi 5 With Snapdragon 820 SoC Tipped to Launch on December 3

xiaomi phone
The wait for Xiaomi to launch its Mi 5 flagship smartphone may finally end next month, if a new leak is to be believed. Additionally, a separate leak has suggested that Xiaomi will launch its Mi Band successor as the Mi Band 1s next week.
Chinese tipster Leaksfly in a Weibo post has claimed that Xiaomi will launch its Mi 5 flagship at an event on December 3 and that it will pack Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC. The tipster goes on to hint that Qualcomm may launch its Snapdragon 820 chipset on November 20. It's worth noting that this is the first time a precise launch date for the upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset has been tipped. Qualcomm has been lately teasing features of its high-end Snapdragon 820; though has not yet come out with a release date for the chipset.
Considering that the Xiaomi Mi 4 was unveiled back in July last year; the company seems to be going slow with its production of next-generation flagship smartphone. Several leaks so far about the Mi 5 have claimed that handset may be the first to run on the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. However, considering Qualcomm is yet to announce the final release of the new Snapdragon SoCs; Xiaomi has been rumoured mostly to use the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC, also seen on the Nexus 6P. A separate report had recently claimed that due to delay in Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipsets, Xiaomi may opt for MediaTek deca-core Helio X20 processor. Some of the purported innards of the Mi 5 include 4GB of RAM; Adreno 530 GPU; a 5.3-inch QHD (1440x2560) pixels resolution display with pixel density of 554ppi; arrive in 16GB or 64GB inbuilt storage variants with no option for expandable storage; a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, and be backed by a 3030mAh battery.
In other news, a Chinese publication has claimed that Mi Band successor may be launched next week and will sport a heart rate sensor. The heart rate sensor can be expected to be the highlight of the popular second-generation Mi Band. The Chinese company is said to be price it competitively and launch it at around CNY 99 (approximately Rs. 1,050).

Xiaomi Mi 5 Tipped to Sport Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor

Xiaomi Mi 5 Tipped to Sport Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor
There have been several previous reports claiming that Xiaomi may include a fingerprint scanner on its long-rumoured flagship Mi 5 smartphone likely to launch in November this year. Now, a new leaked detail coming from China tips that the company may use Qualcomm's Snapdragon Sense ID fingerprint scanner technology. Additionally, Xiaomi is rumoured to launch the second-generation of its Mi Note smartphone next month.
A tipster via Weibo has claimed that Xiaomi's Mi 5 will use "ultrasonic fingerprint recognition" which was introduced by Qualcomm earlier this year. To recall, Qualcomm had showcased its all-new ultrasonic fingerprint recognition system at MWC this year which allow devices to create a 3D-mapped fingerprint rather than the flat images captured by commonly used capacitive sensors.
Based on preliminary leaks, Xiaomi's Mi 5 is said to be the first to run on the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clubbed with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. The handset is said to feature a 5.3-inch QHD (1440x2560) pixels resolution display with pixel density of 554ppi, and arrive in 16GB or 64GB inbuilt storage variants with no option for expandable storage. The smartphone is also tipped to sport a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash and be backed by a 3030mAh battery. Additionally, the device, apart from a fingerprint sensor, is expected to include a USB Type-C port, possibly the version 3.0.
In other news, Xiaomi is said to introduce the second-generation of its Mi Note devices next month. Dubbed Xiaomi Mi Note 2, the handset is likely (via Mobile-Dad) to sport high-end specifications including QHD display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB ROM, 16-megapixel camera, and run Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI ROM.
Tipster @leaksfly posted on Weibo, "Millet Note 2 material breakthrough!" (translated by Bing) tipping that the Mi Note 2 may feature a different build material than its predecessor.
Separately, Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, has claimed that company is targeting to sell 10 million Redmi Note 2 smartphones this year. Notably, the company had sold 800,000 Redmi Note 2 smartphones in China within 12 hours during the first flash sale of the handset.
Jun added (via Android Headlines) that the company sold 2.15 million units of Redmi Note 2 in the first month.

Another Report Says Xiaomi's First Laptop Will Ship Early 2016

xiaomi china launch mi note
A Taiwan-based news report has claimed that Xiaomi is working on its first notebook computer which is being manufactured by Inventec.
Taipei Times quotes Inventec chairman Richard Lee who claimed that the first laptop from Xiaomi's stables can be expected to start shipping in the first or second half of 2016. "I am upbeat about the business outlook for Xiaomi's notebook computers, as the firm has more than 200 million registered smartphone users," said Lee.
Lee expects Xiaomi to shakeup the laptop market the same way it did with smartphones. "I am not sure if the smartphone approach will be applicable to notebooks, but I expect Xiaomi's entry into the notebook industry to bring something new to the market. We will start shipping Xiaomi's notebook computers in the first or second quarter of next year," he added.
Inventec, which has assembly lines for Xiaomi smartphones, is said to design and manufacture Xiaomi's first notebook products in its own plants in China.
Gadgets 360 reached out Xiaomi for a response on the report, but the company refused to comment. In an emailed response, Xiaomi said "We would not like to comment on the speculation."
It's worth pointing that the first half shipment claims of Lee for Xiaomi laptops corroborate with a recent report that suggested the company was working a MacBook Air-like notebook slated for a Q1 2016 release. The Chinese company in the past has refuted reports about its plans to enter the laptops market, which is understandable.
Xiaomi apart from smartphones over the years has been launching multiple devices including TVs, wearables, networking, and several home appliances.
The company at its Wednesday event, apart from launching its Mi 4c smartphone, introduced the new Mi Mobile service in China. The company thus marked its entry into an all new segment where it would compete against other China-based carriers.
The new MVNO (or mobile virtual network operator) service from Xiaomi would be offering consumers voice and data services utilising the networks of China Unicom and China Telecom.

Xiaomi Becomes a Mobile Operator With the Launch of Mi Mobile

Apart from launching its Mi 4c smartphone, Xiaomi introduced the new Mi Mobile service in China. The company thus marks its entry into an all new segment where it will compete against other China-based carriers.
The new MVNO (or mobile virtual network operator) service from Xiaomi will be offering consumers voice and data services and utilising China Unicom or China Telecom networks.
Under Xiaomi Mi Mobile's pay-as-you-go plan, consumers will be charged CNY 0.10 (approximately Rs. 1.10) per voice minute, SMS, and 1MB data. The plan supports China Unicom 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. It will be available for sale via the company online store (Mi.com) starting Wednesday.
Under the second scheme, consumers will get 3GB data bundle for CNY 59 (approximately Rs. 610) per month. Under this offer, consumers will have to pay equivalent to CNY 0.02/MB (approximately Rs. 0.30) for data and CNY 0.10 (approximately Rs. 1) per voice minute, SMS or 1MB data (after exceeding 3GB data cap). It supports China Telecom 2G, 3G, and 4G networks and will be available in public beta starting October.
xiaomi mi mobile sim cards
The Mi Mobile SIM cards will be available as triple-cut SIM card, which means it could instantly usable with phone supporting mini, micro or nano-SIM cards.
MVNOs, which purchase network capacity from large carriers and resell mobile plans under their own branding, have failed to gain traction in China, where three state-owned giants dominate the telecoms industry.
The launch comes less than six months after Google announced it would launch an MVNO service in the United States called "Fi" that piggybacks off Sprint and T-Mobile's networks.
The Chinese company on Tuesday also unveiled its new Mi Bluetooth Speaker with aluminium body and 1500mAh built-in battery. The new speakers have been priced at CNY 199 (approximately Rs. 2,000). The speaker also comes with microSD card support.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 gets certified in China

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2
Despite its competitively priced and quite successful smartphone line of late, Xiaomi has also been trying its hand at a number of other gadgets and tech. Routers, battery packs, smart wearables and night lights, you name it and Xiaomi probably has it, wrapper up in its signature Apple-like viral design. Tablets also have a place on the list, albeit with only one model to date – the Xiaomi Mi Pad.
Now, more than a year into its lifespan, it is naturally time for an update and rumors have been hinting at a Mi Pad 2 for quite some time now. This successor might actually be closer to a release than ever, as it was spotted on Chana's 3C Certification center website. This, means that the device is ready and rated fit to be sold in China.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 Listing

Certification listing
Sadly, little additional information can be extracted from the listing, except, perhaps, the alleged model number – "2015716" and some info on what we assume to be the charger for the unit – 5.0 volts, rated at 2A.
However, there is one more exciting rumor from Xiaomi today. According to industry sources the company has been experimenting with running the new Windows 10 Mobile on a lot of its devices, including flagships like the Mi 4 and the Mi Pad 2.

If that's true we might have a Windows 10-powered tablet to look forward to. In any case, these are all speculations and we can't really know anything else about the Mi Pad 2 for sure, before Xiaomi reopens discussion on the device. The OEM does have an upcoming event set for September 22, when it will be unveiling the new Xiaomi Mi 4c. It is unlikely that the Mi Pad 2 will be announced at the same venue, as new Xiaomi products generally go through a lot of online teasers before launch and we are yet to see anything for the tablet. We'll keep our fingers crossed just in case, though.

In a Weibo post, Bin has confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 4c will come with a Micro-USB to USB Type-C adapter in the box, which can be attached to the bundled Micro-USB cable . In another post, Bin revealed that the Mi 4c will support 4G LTE connectivity; though it has not been specified which of the three Chinese telecom providers will offer 4G on both the SIMs (4G dual-SIM).

Earlier announcing the launch news, Bin had announced that the Xiaomi Mi 4c would be available in two variants - 2GB of RAM with 16GB storage and 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage.

The Mi 4c is said to be priced at a starting price of CNY 1,499 (approximately Rs. 15,650) for the 16GB model, while the 32GB model is said to be priced slightly higher.
The leaks so far have tipped that the Mi 4c will be placed between the flagship Mi 4 and affordable Mi 4i smartphones. The yet-to-be-launched Xiaomi Mi 4c's retail box was leaked, tipping a Snapdragon 808 processor apart from other details. Other rumoured specifications include a 5-inch full-HD display; 2GB of RAM; 16GB storage, and a 3080mAh battery. A 13-megapixel rear camera is listed on the retail box as well alongside a 5-megapixel front camera.

Xiaomi Laptop Tipped Again, Expected to Launch in Q1 2016
Xiaomi, the company which has earned a name for itself selling cheap-priced smartphones, tablets, and TVs among other gadgets, could soon launch a laptop. The Chinese technology conglomerate is working on a MacBook Air-like notebook, as per a new report. The company plans to launch the notebook in the first quarter of 2016, the report added.
Citing people familiar with Xiaomi's plan, Bloomberg reports that the company has been in talks with hardware manufacturers for the internal components of the notebook. Xiaomi is talking to Samsung, for instance, for the supply of memory chips. The new notebook is expected to sport a low-price tag, much like the vast majority of Xiaomi's products. No other information about the device is known as of yet.
This isn't the first time Xiaomi has been said to be working on a MacBook Air-like notebook. Last year purported images of Xiaomi's notebook leaked on the Web. The company had later noted that the images weren't genuine, refuting the rumour.
Founded in 2010, Xiaomi has quickly become one of the red-hot technology companies. Xiaomi, which insists it is a software company, has become more famous for selling durable smartphones in an incredibly cheap price range.
Over the past three years, Xiaomi has forayed into several new product categories including TVs, wearables, networking, and several home appliances. The company is also aggressively entering new markets. It entered India last year, and has since launched a number of products. Xiaomi Mi 5 Allegedly Benchmarked; New Specifications Tipped

Xiaomi Mi4 black
Xiaomi, after the launch of its Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime, is now once again in the spotlight for its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Mi 5. While we have heard some rumoured specs about the smartphone previously, a new report claims to show the AnTuTu benchmark result of the Mi 5 handset. A new set of purported specifications has also surfaced on the Web.
According to a report by Xiaomi Today, the rumoured Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone is seen scoring a impressive 73,075 points in the benchmark result. Furthermore, the high score on AnTuTu is said to be due to the deca-core CPU found on the MediaTek Helio X20 SoC.
Previously it was said that the rumoured Mi 5 would run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. However, ever since the news of Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor heating up, the Chinese smartphone maker is said to have shifted to MediaTek SoC. However, rumours also have it that both the rumoured Mi 5 and the Mi 5 Plus might run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. We will have to wait for Xiaomi to unveil the Mi 5 of course, to see its choice of chipset.
Meanwhile, another report from the same publication surfaces a fresh set of rumoured specifications for the Mi 5 smartphone. As per the report, the Xiaomi Mi 5 would be the first to run on the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, clubbed with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. Additionally, the device will reportedly sport a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel, apart from including a USB Type-C port. It would also come with the latest MIUI 7 pre-installed, based Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
Unfortunately, there was no information on the anticipated larger Mi 5 Plus handset, which was rumoured last month. The handset is said to house a 5.7-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) display, much like the Mi Note Pro, apart from a Snapdragon 820 SoC, a 3500mAh battery, a 23-megapixel rear camera with OIS and laser autofocus, and a 12-megapixel front camera.
Of course, as with all rumours and leaks, we advise readers to take the above information about the Xiaomi Mi 5 with a pinch of salt, as Xiaomi has yet to make any announcements about its new flagship smartphone and the credibility of the sources cannot be independently verified.

Redmi Note 2
Xiaomi has announced that it has sold 800,000 Redmi Note 2 smartphones in its home turf China within 12 hours during the first flash sale on Sunday. It is worth noting that this is a new record of smartphone sales for the Chinese company. The firm has also made its presence in the Guinness book of World records previously for selling a total of 2.11 million smartphones within 24 hours in China.
The company made the announcement in a blog post. The second flash sale of the Redmi Note 2 is scheduled for August 24. Xiaomi had last week launched the Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime smartphones alongside its new MIUI 7 custom ROM based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, at an event in Beijing, China.
To recall, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display. Under the hood it packs an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor (2GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 + 2GHz quad-core Cortex-A53) coupled with 2GB of RAM.
