Sony Xperia M5 Black
As teased by Sony on Tuesday, the Japanese consumer electronics giant launched the Xperia M5 Dual in India on Wednesday, with availability beginning on the same day. Priced at Rs. 37,990, the smartphone will be available in Black and Gold colour variants.

The Sony Xperia M5 Dual is a selfie-focused smartphone that is also "waterproof" according to the company, featuring IP65 and IP68 certification for dust and water protection. Much like Sony's flagship smartphones, the Xperia M5 Dual also features a cap-less USB port. The single-SIM Sony Xperia M5 is not being launched in India at this time.
The Xperia M5 Dual features a 13-megapixel front-facing camera with Sony's Exmor RS sensor. The smartphone sports a 21.5-megapixel rear camera with what Sony calls "Hybrid autofocus" and a f/2.2 lens. The rear camera offers 5x image zoom, 4K video recording, auto scene recognition, image stabiliser, and geo-tagging among other features. It features a 5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display.
The Sony Xperia M5 is powered by a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) processor clocked at 2GHz with 3GB of RAM. It features 16GB internal storage which can be expanded via microSD card (up to 200GB). The Android 5.0 Lollipop-based Xperia M5 supports GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, and 4G (not available in all markets) connectivity options. The smartphone packs a 2600mAh battery.
Initially launched alongside the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra in August, the handset was announced to be available in select countries across emerging markets starting mid-August. Late last month, the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra Dual was launched in India at Rs. 29,990.

Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact With 23-Megapixel Camera Launched

Sony Xperia Z5
As expected, Sony on Wednesday lifted the wraps of its 2015 lineup of flagship smartphones at the sidelines of IFA in Berlin. Apart from the first smartphone to come with a 4K UHD display - the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium - the company has unveiled the Sony Xperia Z5 and the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact.
The two smartphones sport near identical specifications, with the only difference being the size of the screen. While the Xperia Z5 comes with a 5.2-inch display, the Xperia Z5 Compact sports a 4.6-inch screen. Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, featuring a 64-bit octa-core processor and 4G LTE capabilities.
Perhaps the highlight of the new flagship smartphones from Sony is the improved camera. The Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Compact come with a brand new 1/2.3 Exmor RS for mobile 23-megapixel sensor and F/2.0 G lens. Sony claims to have designed the camera inside its new flagships using the same technology that's seen in its Alpha range of interchangeable lens cameras.
 Xperia Z5 Compact White
The rear camera also boasts of the "fastest autofocus in a smartphone" - at 0.037 seconds - and comes with improvements in SteadyShot, Sony's image stabilisation techniques that make sure the video isn't 'jerky' even if the phone moves while shooting, as well as enhanced low-light performance.
The other big addition to the smartphones is a fingerprint scanner, which is embedded on the power button on the right hand side. In our limited testing with the Sony Xperia Z5 and the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, the fingerprint scanner performed reliably and without any speed or performance issues. It will also support the FIDO standard; authentication via fingerprint for online payment services - with Sony sharing news on first partners at a later date.
"Smartphones are part of people's lives," said Hiroki Totoki, President and CEO at Sony Mobile Communications. "Since users already create, share and enjoy most of their content on the go - we've set out to bring Sony's latest innovations in camera, design and display to ensure the Xperia Z5 series is the best possible lifestyle and entertainment platform," he added.
The Sony Xperia Z5 comes with a metal frame and frosted glass back, and will be available in White, Graphite Black, Gold, and Green colour options. The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact will be available in Yellow and Coral colour options, in addition to White and Graphite Black. Both phones comes with waterproof protection.
Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact will launch globally from October 2015, and Xperia Z5 Premium will hit the markets in November 2015. The Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium will be available in both single SIM and dual SIM variants, with India expected to get the dual SIM models of the phones. Pricing of all three smartphones is currently not known.

Sony Xperia Z5+ Promotional Image Leaks; UA Profile Tips 4K Display

sony xperia z3 plus
Sony has been rumoured to be working on its second-flagship of 2015, believed to be dubbed Xperia Z5, alongside a compact-version of the handset, Xperia Z5 Compact. Now, new details have emerged tipping that the Japanese manufacturer may already be working on a variant of the Xperia Z5, the Xperia Z5+.
A new Sony high-end Xperia smartphone has been leaked in promo image, believed to showcase the Xperia Z5+. Additionally, UA (user-agent) profile company listings tipping details about the Xperia Z5+ have also been spotted online.
The leaked promo image claims to show a handset codenamed S70+, expected to be the Xperia Z5+. While the promo image is blurry, the handset in it largely seem to sport design same as the Xperia Z3+ or Xperia Z4. Sony's OmniBalance design is clearly visible in the leaked promo image and the handset is seen in Black, Chrome, and Gold colours. The promo image comes courtesy Weibo (China's equivalent of Twitter) and was first picked up by Xperia Blog.
Separately, the UA profiles of the Sony E6833, E6853, E6883 - thought to be Xperia Z5+ variants - were spotted, tipping some details about the yet-to-be-announced handset including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (MSM8944) processor. The listing (via Xperia blog) also shows a screen size entry of 3840x2160 pixel likely indicating the screen resolution of the upcoming handset to be 4K.
Sony recently confirmed its presence at IFA event next month and even claimed that it will announce "many new features."

My Xperia Theft Protection Bricking Phones With Unlocked Bootloaders

Unlocked Bootloaders Sony Xperia
Sony's My Xperia Theft Protection (MXTP) feature, which is present in recently launched handsets such as Sony Xperia Z3+, Xperia C4, Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua, is bricking bootloader-unlocked smartphones as per user reports.
For those unaware, the MXTP security feature, when enabled, prevents a user from wiping the stolen Xperia device and installing a custom ROM without access to the owner's Google sign-in details. The main work done by MXTP here is to prevent the bootloader on the device from unlocking.
However, according to some Xperia users (via Xperia Blog), enabling the MXTP on the device that already has an unlocked bootloader, leads to the bricking of the smartphone. This is said to happen due to MXTP's efforts to prevent the bootloader-unlocking on an Xperia handset that already has an unlocked bootloader.
Sony is aware of the issue and instead of a solution, has recently changed some wording on its Unlocked Bootloader website under the 'Risks' section. The firm says that, "After unlocking your device, you should not enable My Xperia (found in the settings menu under security on some devices running Android 5.0) as this might cause the device to malfunction." The site adds, "In addition, if you have enabled My Xperia, this function must be turned off before you can unlock your device."
Notably, Sony for now does not allow consumers to unlock the bootloader on new devices including Sony Xperia Z3+, Xperia C4, Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua. The delay is said to be the same MXTP issue, which the firm might be working on behind-the-scenes. For now, there are no custom ROMs available for the devices.

Update for Sony Xperia Z3+ comes to fix overheating issues

Last month Sony acknowledged that the Snapdragon 810 chipset at the heart of the Xperia Z3+ / Xperia Z4v overheats. Qualcomm still hasn’t owned up to the situation, but Sony released the 28.0.A.7.24 update to remedy the issue.
It weighs in at around 70MB and leaves the Android version at 5.0.2. If it's available in your region (you can check from the settings menu) you can install the update from your phone or from a computer, user data will not be affected.
Update for Sony Xperia Z3+ comes to fix overheating issues
How exactly this update is meant to resolve the overheating issues is not clear. The simplest way to do it is to throttle the CPU and GPU clockspeeds, though Sony could have a more elaborate solution.
HTC had similar issues with the One M9 and the update it issued did indeed reduce the issue (slowed it down, but didn’t solve it completely), this came at the cost of lower benchmarks. It has since released another update to keep the M9 cooler while it charges, so wrangling Snapdragon 810 into submission is no easy task.

Sony Xperia Z4v With 5.2-Inch QHD Display, Snapdragon 810 SoC Launched

Sony Xperia Z4v
Sony, after introducing the Xperia Z4 in Japan and Xperia Z3+ globally, on Tuesday launched another version of the handset, the Sony Xperia Z4v. The Verizon-exclusive version of the handset will be available this summer in the US via the Verizon website. The price of the smartphone has not been announced for now.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop-based Sony Xperia Z4v's claim to fame is its 5.2-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) resolution Triluminos display powered by X-Reality for mobile picture engine. It is a notch above the existing Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4's full-HD display resolution. It also marks Sony's first smartphone with a display resolution exceeding full-HD.
It is worth noting that while Sony is the late to the QHD resolution party, the move would be nonetheless welcomed by the fans. We have already seen a number of smartphones featuring the QHD resolution display, launched earlier this year such as HTC One M9+, One E9+, LG G4, Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Active, and Gionee Elife E8 and others.
Sony Xperia Z4v

Besides the display resolution, the 4G LTE-enabled Xperia Z4v features nearly the same specifications as Sony's other two flagship variants. It also comes with built-in wireless charging support for Qi and PMA standards. The Xperia Z4v is powered by a 64-bit octa-core (quad-core 1.5GHz + quad-core 2GHz) Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. It also features IP65/68 ratings that certify it as dust-proof and water-resistant (immersible in 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes). The Xperia Z4v also retains the 20.7-megapixel autofocus rear camera of its predecessor, with an Exmor RS sensor and pulsed LED flash. While its not yet mentioned, the rear camera is likely to feature 1/2.3-inch BSI sensor and Bionz image processor. The handset also sports a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
The handset includes 32GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). Interestingly, the smartphone is backed by a larger 3000mAh battery, unlike the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4's 2930mAh battery, and is rated to deliver up to 20 hours of talk time and 580 hours of standby time in 3G connectivity. Measuring 144.4x72.3x8.7mm and weighing 162 grams, significantly thicker and heavier than the other variants' 6.9mm and 144 gram measurements. The smartphone will be available in Black and White colour variants. Sony is also touting PS4 Remote Play functionality, especially relevant as the smartphone was launched at the sidelines of E3 2015.
