Meizu Pro 5 Release Delayed Until November Due to Factory Flood

Meizu Pro 5
Meizu's recently unveiled flagship smartphone, the Pro 5, was scheduled to go on sale starting Monday. The Chinese company however has announced that the availability of the handset has been delayed until November.
GizChina (via Mobile-Dad) reports that the delay has been caused due to a flood at the company's factory in Guangdong, caused by a storm in the region. The company representatives detailed that the factory affected by the floods was used to manufacture the unibody chassis of the Meizu Pro 5 smartphone. The company as of now has not confirmed whether any other production line of its smartphones has been affected by the flood.
To recall, Meizu launched the Pro 5 last month at an event in Beijing, China. It will be available in two variants - 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM with 32GB storage priced at CNY 2,799 (approximately Rs. 29,000) and 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM with 64GB of storage priced at CNY 3,099 (approximately Rs. 32,100).
The company started taking reservation for the smartphone soon after the launch and had promised to ship it on October 12 in China. It will be available in Grey, Silver, Silver Black, and Golden colours.
Meizu had confirmed its plan to bring the Pro 5 to India as early as the end of this year, but added certification and other issues may delay it till early next year.
The Pro 5 features an all metal body and much like some previously launched Meizu handsets, comes with a physical home button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The handset features a 5.7-inch (1080x1920 pixels) Super Amoled display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection and 2.5D glass. The display sports a pixel density of 387ppi. Under the hood, the Pro 5 is backed by a Samsung Exynos 7420 octa-core processor (quad-core 2.1GHz Cortex-A57 + quad-core 1.5GHz Cortex-A53) coupled with Mali T760 MP8 GPU. The built-in storage can be expanded via microSD card (which can be placed instead of the second SIM).
Running Flyme 5 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, the smartphone supports dual Nano-SIM cards and also supports 4G LTE on both the cards. The Pro 5 supports LTE Cat. 6 standard offering download speeds of up to 300Mbps in the TDD LTE 4G frequency band. The Pro 5 smartphone sports a 21.16-megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX 230 CMOS sensor, f/2.2 aperture, and dual-tone flash. The rear camera comes with Blue glass filter and features burst mode, Panorama, and packs both phase detection autofocus focusing and laser focusing. There is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera also on board, with an f/2.0 aperture.
The handset is backed by 3050mAh battery and features mCharge 2.0 technology that is claimed to offer up to 65 percent charge in just 30 minutes. Another highlight of the Meizu Pro 5 is it comes packed with USB Type-C port. It measures 156.7x78x7.5mm and weighs 168 grams.

Meizu MX5 leaks in yet another set of pictures

Meizu may not be a particularly big name in the mobile real, but judging by the sheer amount of interest the community has shown for its upcoming flagship, things might be looking up for the Chinese manufacturer. The rumor mill has been overflowing with info on the Meizu MX5 and just a few days before the official release - set for June 30, yet another set of images of the device has leaked online. We have already seen the upcoming handset appear in various images, more than once, but usually blurry and lacking detail.

Meizu MX5
In comes today's set, which is as extensive as it gets. The album features the MX5 from every possible angle, leaving no room for doubt as to the rounded unibody design, the camera placement or the Samsung-like elliptical home button. So, with the phone's exterior completely revealed, the only thing left to ponder on is the hardware right? Well, actually, rumors have been so plentiful and extensive that we might just be able to piece together the whole picture.
Thanks to a recent benchmark page, we can be quite confident that the Meizu MX5 will feature a 5.5-inch FullHD display and run Android 5.0.1 out-of-the-box. Memory is set at 3GB and 16GB for onboard storage. Underneath the hood, there should be a Mediatek MT6795T SoC, also known as Helio X10, which was subject to a lot of speculation, so there might still be a little room for surprise come June 30.

There's a 20.7MP primary camera on the back of the handset, which is capable of 2160p video recording. On top of that, the 5MP selfie snapper can also shoot 1080p videos. The battery inside is said to have a capacity of 3150 mAh, complemented by a new fast charging technology - mCharge, capable of juicing the MX5 from zero to 25% in 10 minutes. We have even received an alleged Geekbench score for the phone. At around 5300 points, Meizu's latest flagship is treading in Samsung Galaxy S6 territory, which, if confirmed, will pit it against the current mobile titans.

To top things off, we even have some idea of the phone's price tag. A previous rumor puts it at ¥1,799 (about $290), which hints at flagship performance at a mid-range price point - the ultimate industry dream!
A higher end Meizu MX5 Pro will also be announced in the near future. The device might feature a 6” QHD display, Exynos 7420 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and 20MP camera.

Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition With 5.3-Inch Display, Octa-Core SoC Launched

Meizu MX4 Ubuntu
Canonical is speeding up its Ubuntu handset launch cycle - while the first smartphone took over two years to reach the markets since the announcement of the OS, the second was launched earlier this month, and now the third and the latest is set to go on sale starting Thursday.
The smartphone named Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is only Europe-centric for now, with no word on its launch in other regions expect China. The handset was launched in China last month for developers. Priced at EUR 299, the handset will be sold via Meizu's website through an invite-only system. Canonical had previously launched two smartphones in collaboration with Spanish manufacturer BQ.
It is worth noting that the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is the original Meizu MX4 handset but with Ubuntu Touch OS instead of Android 4.4.4 KitKat. As before, Canonical once again touts the Ubuntu Scopes UI as what would make the device stand out. Scopes, or categorised home screens, provide a unified view of content in the particular category.
The smartphone features a 5.3-inch screen with 1152x1920 pixels resolution display covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and is powered by a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek 6595 processor (four 2GHz Cortex-A17 cores + four 1.7GHz Cortex-A7 cores) clubbed with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and PowerVR G6200 GPU.
The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition houses a 20-megapixel rear camera powered by Sony IMX220 Exmor RS series sensor, and features a blue glass filter apart from f/2.2 aperture. A 2-megapixel front-facing camera with Sony IMX208 sensor and f/2.0 aperture is also included. While the Android-powered version is available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB inbuilt storage versions, the Ubuntu-based variant would only come with 16GB inbuilt storage.
The smartphone features 4G LTE, TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE networks besides dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a,b,g,n,ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, A-GPS, and USB connectivity. Backed by a 3100mAh battery, the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition measures 144x75.2x8.9mm and weighs 147 grams. The handset will be available in Black, Golden, Black/White, and Silver/White colour variants.
"Meizu pioneered the new wave of innovative Chinese manufacturers of high quality, high end devices who have mastered the user centric distribution model that is so popular in China. Their hunger for breaking down current ecosystem dynamics make them a perfect partner for Ubuntu," said Cristian Parrino, VP Mobile at Canonical of the launch.
"We're proud to be partnering with Ubuntu on our first major smartphone launch in Europe, which is a huge milestone for us. Ubuntu is breaking down new barriers in mobile user experience and ecosystem development, and we're excited to be a part of it," added Li Nan, VP at Meizu.

Meizu M2 Shows Up In TENAA Certification

Chinese manufacturers have really been setting the bar high with entry-level headsets recently. Customers are now spoiled for choice as devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 4i, Redmi 2, and Redmi 1S bring modern smartphone features on the cheap. The Meizu m1 is another prime example of this class of devices and its successor, the Meizu M2 promises to be even better.
The said phone was recently spotted in a TENAA certification entry, meaning that it is already on its way to consumer markets. It is hard to say how far along it is in the development process, but, considering the company has set an event for June 30, it might be just around the corner. The m2 note was released not long ago with a price tag of about $200. The naming similarity is no coincidence, as the new Meizu phone takes after its note sibling visually.

Meizu M2 Front And Rear View
The shape of the device is almost identical and so are the controls, down to the physical home button on the front, in place of the once signature circle. It is, however, slightly smaller and measures 140.1x68.9x8.7 mm. The display is 5.0 inches in diagonal and only offers 720p resolution, but, some sacrifices must be made to keep the price down. It does come with two SIM slots.
Under the hood, there is a 64-bit MT6735 SoC with quad-core CPU, which boasts an extensive list of network connectivity options, including dual standby with 4G LTE.
The rest of the specs sheet looks pretty good for a budget device. The m2 packs 2GB of RAM and a 2,700mAh battery. The camera setup consists of a 13MP shooter on the back and a 5MP one on the front.
The phone should boot Android 5.0.1 out-of-the-box. We are yet to hear anything on pricing and availability, though.

Come June 30, we will hopefully have more info on the Meizu M2. Still, there is the possibility that the said event is organized for the company's 2015 flagship - the MX5. Either way, we will keep a close eye on the announcements.

The 16GB model, which was initially said to be exclusive to certain carriers in China, is the one that's currently listed for pre-order with prices ranging from $170 to $200. One retailer states a Jule 1 shipping date, while another ends it's pre-orders on July 5, with shipping likely following. Meizu's own site quotes a CNY 799 price tag on the 16GB model, which translates to a much lower $130. The 32GB storage option has an MSRP of CNY 999 or about $160, though only Oppomart has that one listed, and it's a common entry with the 16GB version, both under a $199 price tag. Its status is "out of stock", though.
A follow-up to the successful m1 note, the Meizu m2 note packs a 5.5-inch FullHD IPS display, Mediatek MT6753 chipset with an octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. The LTE-capable smartphone is powered by a 3,100mAh battery and boots a customized Lollipop build.

4.6-inch Meizu M2 Sighted, Heading To Launch This Month?

Meizu M2 Note
Photos of another Meizu device have been seen today on the back of news that Meizu are currently inviting media to an event later this month.
The images posted on Chinese tech sites show a white rear panel for a new Meizu phone that sources indicate is the next generation Meizu M2, the replacement for the small m1 phone that released in China earlier in the year.

According to sources the Meizu m2 will features a plastic unibody design and a 4.6-inch 1920 x 1080 display. Sources go on to say that the phone will likely use a Mediatek MT6753 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal memory and run Flyme based on Android 5.1.
The leaks come at the same time that news of a Meizu launch at the end of the June began to hit the web.

Meizu MX5 Alloy Rear End Surfaces For The Camera Once Again

Meizu MX5
If we are to take all these rumours as gospel then Meizu are likely to launch an m2 and MX5 at an event held on 30th June in Beijing.
Meizu’s recent decisions have left us all scratching our heads. Why have they created a successor to the m1 note when the phone only launched in December? And why are we seeing rumours of the m2 when the original m1 only came in to being in January? There are rumours as to why Meizu had to make changes to their phones, but still I’d be a little upset if I was a Meizu m1 or m1 note owner myself.
What we have above is a reason for MX4 and MX4 Pro owners to worry. That metal rear shell is believed to be from the upcoming Meizu MX5, and as you can see it is a one piece ally body not the same as the MX4/Pro which features a removable plastic rear cover.
As far as specifications go, the Meizu MX5 could launch with either a Mediatek chip, or Samsung. 1080 or 2K display and a fingerprint scanner, so in reality we don’t know much about this phone, but stay tuned and we are sure to have more.
