Huawei announces G7 Plus with A Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 SoC

Huawei G7 Plus
Huawei has announced its all-new G7 Plus smartphone for China and its South-East Asian neighbours. While it looks very similar to the Apple iPhone 5s, it does have a polished 2.5 D glass on the front that makes it look a bit unique.
The smartphone is a mid-range offering and is basically a re-branded G8 smartphone that was announced back at the IFA Berlin this year.
So after the HTC One A9 that seems to have taken inspiration from the iPhone 6, and the OnePlus X that looks very similar to the iPhone 4s, we now have G7 Plus that looks similar to the iPhone 5s. Still then, in the real world, the G7 Plus does look unique with its metal, glass and plastic construction.
But what is interesting are the hardware bits that Huawei has chosen for this mid-ranger:
There is a 5.5 inch Full HD (1920 X 1080 pixels) display with curved 2.5 D glass
Inside, there is a brand-new octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 64-bit chipset (1.5 Ghz) that is paired with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage that is expandable
In the camera department, we have a 13 MP unit on the back with OIS and 5 MP unit for selfie duties
The smartphone packs in the usual connectivity options, which includes 4G/ LTE, 3G radios along with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0
The handset boots to Android 5.1 with Huawei’s custom Emotion UI skinning
All of the above, including a fingerprint scanner that sits on the back is powered by a 3000 mAh battery
Indeed, Huawei has a lot going on for its G7 Plus and one should expect it to make waves when it comes to India. As for the price, Huawei seems to have that covered as well at 12,990 Baht or Rs 23,000 (approx.).
We can clearly see the G7 competing with Samsung’s Galaxy A8 and even the Motorola Moto X Play. This is more so because the new 616 chipset packs in an Adreno 405 GPU, which is pretty good for a mid-ranger.

Huawei G7 Plus With 5.5-Inch Display, 13-Megapixel Camera Launched

Huawei G7 Plus
Further cementing its presence in the mid-range segment, Huawei has announced the launch of the G7 Plus in China. The handset is very similar to the Huawei G8 which the Chinese telecommunications launched at IFA 2015 in Berlin in September.
The metal-clad smartphone features a design similar to the iPhone, with antenna bands and speaker grilles looking strikingly similar. The Huawei G7 Plus is the logical successor to the last year's Huawei G7. The G7 Plus offers a substantial improvement over its predecessor with a higher resolution display and a more powerful processor among other differences. The smartphone is listed on the company's Thailand site and its official Vmall online store

As for the specifications, the Huawei G7 Plus sports a 5.5-inch IPS full-HD (1080x1920 pixel) 2.5D display. It is powered by a octa-core Qualcomm MSM8939 SoC (1.2GHz quad-core + 1.5GHz quad-core) coupled with 3GB of RAM. The handset also comes equipped with 32GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded using a microSD card (up to 128GB). There's also a square-shaped fingerprint sensor at the back.
Other features include a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and dual-tone flash, a 5-megapixel sensor placed upfront, and a 3000mAh battery. The dual-SIM capable handset supports 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi and other standard connectivity options. On the software side, the handset runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with Emotion UI 3.1 on top of it. The G7 Plus is priced equivalent of $330 (roughly Rs. 21,800). There's no word on its international availability as yet.
The handset is very similar to the G8. Not only do both the handsets look identical, they also offer similar specifications. The G7 Plus however also offers twice as much expandable storage capability at 128GB.

Google to Launch Huawei, LG Nexus Smartphones on September 29: Report

Google Nexus 5
The oft-leaked Google Nexus 5 (2015) smartphone and the Huawei-based Nexus model will reportedly be launching on September 29. Notably, the search giant for the past couple of years has been launching the Nexus devices in the month of October.
The two Google Nexus smartphones would be launched in an event in San Francisco, reported CNET, citing people familiar with the company plans. As we have already seen in past leaks and rumours, the report tips the smaller Nexus smartphone would be made by LG and the larger one by Huawei. If the leaks are any indication, this would be LG's third Nexus smartphone after Google Nexus 5 and Nexus 4. Huawei on the other hand would be making a Nexus device for the first time.
It is yet to be seen if Google would be keeping a grand event for the launch of the Nexus smartphones, or like every year would keep a relatively small event. There is no information on the pricing of the devices as well. Google generally keeps Nexus smartphones and tablet prices low as compared to other devices featuring the same specifications. Of course, as the platform lead devices for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the smartphones will be running the latest Android version.
The latest Android version would be bringing a number of updates and new features some of which include granular app permissions, Now on Tap, custom Chrome tabs, better handling of Web links and more.
As per the latest rumoured specifications, the LG Nexus 5 (2015) is said to feature a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display; Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor; 3GB of RAM; Adreno 418 GPU, and a 5-megapixel front camera. A [USB Type-C port, 2700mAh battery, 12.3-megapixel rear camera are being also tipped for the device.
As for the Huawei-made Nexus smartphone, the device was recently leaked in a couple of images. The smartphone is tipped to sport 64GB of inbuilt storage and the MSM8994 SoC aka the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. It may also feature a USB Type-C port. A 5.7-inch display, front-facing speakers and a fingerprint scanner are also tipped.

Huawei Honor 7i With 13-Megapixel Rotating Camera, 5.2-Inch Display Launched

Huawei Honor 7
Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has launched the new Honor 7i smartphone. The new Honor-series smartphone is now up for pre-orders in China. The Huawei Honor 7i has been priced at CNY 1,599 (approximately Rs. 16,500) for the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage variant, and will be available via China Mobile. The same variant will be available at CNY 1,699 (approximately Rs. 17,500) via China Telecom and China Unicom.
The 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage variant will be available at CNY 1,899 (approximately Rs. 19,500) on all three mobile carriers. So far, Huawei has not revealed any plans to launch the Honor 7i outside of China.
The biggest highlight of the Honor 7i is its rotatable camera module that allows the 13-megapixel rear camera to flip 180-degrees to click front-facing images. The camera features a Sony sensor and comes with dual-tone LED flash. Another notable feature is the presence of a fingerprint scanner on the side panel, which the company touts is an "industry's first" and sports the "smallest fingerprint modules." However, the recently launched ZTE Nubia Z9 Exclusive edition features fingerprint scanners on its side panel as well - on its power button and volume rockers.
Huawei notes that the fingerprint scanner on the Honor 7i features a second-generation fingerprint identification chip solution which adds features such as screen unlock by fingerprint scanning and store documents protected by fingerprint scan.

Huawei Edges Past Microsoft to Become Third Largest Mobile Phone Vendor

Huawei Logo Event
Microsoft, ever since the acquisition of Nokia, has launched some budget and mid-range Lumia smartphones, apart from some feature phones under the Nokia brand. Unfortunately, none of them were able to generate enough hype among users. This lacklustre performance of the company has led to its slip by one rank in the latest global mobile phone market figures - which include both smartphones and mobile phones.
According to market research firm Strategy Analytics, Microsoft has lost one spot to Huawei in the mobile phone market in Q2 of this year, promoting the latter to the third position after Samsung and Apple.
The report says that while Microsoft shipped 27.8 million mobile phone units in Q2 this year, Huawei shipped 30.6 million units. Percentage-wise, Microsoft captured 6.4 percent of the market, whereas Huawei got 7 percent of the market share. To bring this in reference, in the same quarter last year, Microsoft shipped nearly double the mobile phone units - 50.3 million (11.8 percent), while Huawei shipped 20.6 million units (4.8 percent).
On the other hand, Samsung and Apple topped the list at first and second ranks respectively. While Samsung shipped 89 million units gaining 20.5 percent market share, Apple sold 47.5 million units gaining 10 percent share in Q2 2015. As compared to Q2 last year, Samsung shipped 95.3 million units (22.3 percent), Apple shipped 35.2 million units (8.2 percent). On fifth position is Xiaomi with 19.8 million units (4.6 percent).
"Huawei shipped 30.6 million mobile phones and captured a record 7 percent market share worldwide in Q2 2015. Huawei is rising fast in all regions of the world, particularly China where its 4G models, such as the Mate7, are proving wildly popular. Huawei has finally overtaken Microsoft to become the world's third largest mobile phone vendor for the first time ever," said Ken Hyers, Director at Strategy Analytics, in the report.
While Microsoft has not fared well in the market this quarter, its new Windows 10 Mobile might help spur it to recapture market share. Microsoft would be releasing its Windows 10 Mobile later this year, and is tipped to launch it by November. Microsoft also revealed the Lumia smartphones that would be receiving the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade first.

There is no word as to when the handset would reach other regions outside China.
The dual-SIM supporting Huawei Honor 4A runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with the company's Emotion UI 3.1 skin atop, as reported by GSMArena. The handset sports a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) resolution display and is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset clocked at 1.1GHz, clubbed with 2GB RAM and Adreno 304 GPU.
